Like I was on like Wattpad
All the red flags are there, and they don't work in real life, but somehow [music] in fantasy, the red flags it's a little bit more like if he has wings, it's fine. >> And how So, how long? >> Takes me a day or two per book

Josephine, as you might know, is an iconic Victoria's Secret supermodel
And what you might not know is that she somehow reads four to five books at a time
So, Josephine, welcome to Booked, Blonde, and Busy
I'm so excited for you to be here
You actually I think the audience understands
I don't know if you necessarily understand, but before we get into that, we're going to do the beverage of the day
I was thinking we would be healthy, and we would have our little um This is an immunity shot, which has an elderberry apple
And this is a digestant shot, which I digestion
And it's ginger and pineapple
So, we're trying to be healthy
So, I love it. >> Especially with the rain and the like yuckiness outside. >> I've actually never taken a shot in my life
Fun fact about me. >> Ever? Like, [clears throat] no shot. >> Mhm. >> Wow. >> Like, it's just like it's all I do
But, my thing is I'm really scared of throwing up
So, I'm scared I feel like people only throw up when they take too many shots. >> Oh, see I know my number
I just also hate walking around with a drink. >> Mhm

Well, maybe I have a little bit
Me sitting at home on my iPod touch and seeing you get your angel wings was like a literal life-changing moment
I showed it to my mom and was like I want to do this
Keeping in mind Olivia was maybe Olivia's many
I was like [laughter] I was like 5'2
Like, I hadn't hit puberty yet
My mom was just like, "Okay, sweetie
Okay, sweetie." Like >> Did you go late? >> Yeah, I was I was the tiniest human in prob- until probably like ninth grade maybe
Like, I was always the smallest in my class. >> that translate to in age? >> Like, 13, 14, 15, somewhere around there
I think I was a young baby, too
But um so I saw that
And that was the moment where I was like, "Oh my god, I want to look exactly like her
I want to be her." And just as like I've grown up in this industry a little bit, like you've always just been someone that I've looked up to so much
Just because like the way that you carry yourself and the way that you just every single one of like your red carpet looks, like the interviews that you would do, you're so well-spoken
And I'm not going to get into this cuz I don't want to sound like a stalker
But, I'm just really appreciative of you being on here. >> No, I appreciate it. >> So, what was the book that like got you into reading? I feel like everyone has one. >> Well, my I am so far back
Like I can't don't remember not reading. >> Really? >> Yeah
Um but I would say like so my uh bonus mom was a school librarian. >> Okay. >> I've been they read out loud to me since like I'm old enough that they started reading out the Harry Potter books for me. >> Aw. >> Before I could read properly
So it was really cool once I could take over myself
So that one was a big one
Then [snorts] there there was something she kept on the shelf and she's like, "When you're old enough, you can read this." So then she made this like whole like oh my god, I can finally cuz she thought it would maybe be a little too scary
Um it's called The Shamer's Daughter
But it's a Danish book
It's like a Danish kid not kid but like teenage books and it's about this her superpower is that when you look into her eyes, she can see everything that you've ever been ashamed of your whole life and like crumple adult men and she's like >> [laughter] >> you know, politics and she's like so feared >> Mhm. >> blah blah [clears throat] blah. >> [gasps] >> But what really got me into like this romantic fantasy more of a adult version
Again, this is a Scandinavian book line that never made it out before I think it would have done really well now because of such a hype about it
It's called like the Yax Yax down wondering
Yeah, I know. [laughter] Um so that it's basically the Volven's daughter
It's about like Vikings come to this city
They like plunder their whole thing
She gets kidnapped because that's what they do. >> That's [laughter] what they do. >> And she can like basically put together now she is the new wife of the chief
Then >> Okay. >> And then turns out she has magical power cuz she's a Volven and then it's like very historical feels accurate
And then you follow this girl just like go into adulthood and between magic and this and it's like a nine book series. >> Did you read all of them? >> Yes
And I had like my bonus mom like get them from the library and I she's like, "Nobody ever ever checked this one out besides you and your two friends." and we're like obsessed
It became like my whole personality for so long and I just got the whole series cuz she found them on like a flea market cuz they don't really it's not a thing I don't think it ever did well enough to get outside of Scandinavia
So but I now have them all and I I'm so nervous to reread them because I don't know if I've put them in a head cuz I I was in a head space like I was 13 reading my first like kind of adult book. >> Yeah. >> Definitely a little too young to read it but I was like what is that? >> That's so cute
I feel like for me I like was kind of the opposite like I was forced I don't know if the schooling is the same in Scandinavia but they like forced us to read like The Giver and then there was like two or three other books but like when someone's forcing you to read a book you don't Yeah, you don't enjoy it no matter how good of a book it is
I'm sure The Giver is a great read
Me at the age of what I was probably a freshman sophomore them forcing us to read it I was like this is just killing the >> Plus you usually have to keep this pace of the class and like I'm going to be reading one chapter this week and you're like okay cool. >> Yeah and that's like that really killed my vibe for reading and then when I had COVID in 2020 I keep saying like when I had COVID but like whatever
Um I picked up Crave by Tracy Wolff which is like a vampire werewolf like crazy book um and I was like oh my god they write [ __ ] like this this is awesome and then ever since then I've read an absurd amount of books I'm not going to lie to you. >> I swear what happened is that every cuz I was the kind of girl who would read like fan fics
Like I was on like Wattpad and like there was there was not enough material for me to consume. >> Hm. >> Cuz like you would get like one fantasy book two fantasy book and maybe it was also like just me being in Denmark and like it was harder to find unless I was like am I like old school enough you had to go to the library
Yeah
They wasn't like online available at all times and now like any Tik Tok I'm like my TBR list is like beyond I I'll never be done
Um me too. >> [sighs] >> But growing up I would like go to library trying to figure out so there was never enough so then I discovered Wattpad on the internet and I was like >> [gasps] >> fantasy fan fics
I swear all those girls are now old enough to write their own books and that's what you're seeing
That that is what this explosion is my theory
Um and I'm like I'm so excited
I think it's so fun. >> I know
I've even been like obviously I'm I'm on BookTok and clearly you are too
And I feel like just everyday I'm finding like a new book that's coming out that's like in the same like dystopian like Veronica Roth who's the author of Divergent just announced like her new book and I'm like I'm loving this
I don't know what's happening but I'm loving it. >> I try and make a rule right now like but it's so hard like please don't start another series that's not done. >> [laughter] >> Because like I the amount of things I've started that's I have to wait for this and then I'm we'll have to reread it anyway to like catch up because they all kind of get blurred. >> I know
Which we'll talk about A Court of Thorns and Roses because I saw that you were rereading it and I'm like I've only reread one book in my life and that was Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and that was just because that book gave me a fix that I'm not going to say no other book but not a lot of books can give me that like obsession with a character and like the love triangle
I'm not a huge love triangle girl but that one >> That's the only one that's kind of worked out for me. >> Yeah
We're on like >> Normally I don't like it. >> Oh cuz the plot twist in it and anyways um not going to spoil it but for the viewers
Um but in one way that we are different is you read multiple books at a time and that I find crazy cuz I'm like a serial monogamist
I'll read one book at a time and I have to read it until I'm finished and that where it that's where my rule comes in of if I don't finish a book within like I'll do like a week a week and a half I'll be like you know what I need to finish or I'm I'm either going to finish it immediately, or I'm never going to finish it
Um so, walk me through like the concept of reading four books at a time
Like, what? [laughter] Why? >> Well, that's also like I think the more abs I sometimes have to like give myself weeks where I'm not allowed to read because it can get a little obsessive
And then I'm like lost in my universes
That's where like the multiple books comes in because or just like even mood reading
I'm such a mood reader
Sometime I get really hooked on a fantasy, but they can also be a little heavy if the world building is like super intense
And for me, I need like a proper head space for that
Um I need to be like not distracted as much because I tend to just like I can't listen to that stuff in like the car
I will just start watching a movie. >> Yeah. >> And then all of a sudden I'm like, wait. >> I'm I need to be driving. >> Yes, I should focus on traffic
That's where I like the more like, oh, I would like to learn about this topic
Like, so like everything from parenting books
Like, currently I'm reading um Tell Me Where It Hurts
And it's about the concept how we've never thought about pain as a whole body experience and not just physical, emotional, but it actually all connects. >> Mhm. >> That one is I usually have more of an audiobook cuz I can listen to that and it's more factual versus like there's not like this video going on. >> Mhm. >> And then what do you get? There's also the option for smut
But then sometimes they get so smutty that I'm like, okay, I need to put It's gotten to like But those are so easy for me to pick up, put down. >> Mhm. >> I agree cuz I don't I feel like with that you don't need to be that locked in like where it's a fantasy book where you have to like >> like watching a Hallmark movie, too, sometimes
You like, you know what's going You know what's happening
You know instantly when she meets the guy and you're like, And it's like you know the story
It's like it's so predictable, but it also like there's something comforting about that
And then sometimes these books go so dark that I I a palate cleanser
And I [clears throat] need like a full just like >> rom-com >> Mhm
It's just >> So like a rom-com is your palate cleanser always? >> Not always
Like I just got told now I'm about to finish Alchemized. >> Yeah. >> And I thought it was going to be darker than it is cuz I read Manacled as a fanfic back then. >> I don't know what Manacled is
Is that like >> is what it's based So she's This is was a massive fanfic >> Oh, okay. >> about what happens after Harry Potter
So Voldemort wins. >> Oh, I did hear about that. >> Yes. >> dead Hermione and Malfoy now >> Interesting. >> it's like a mix of dystopian after war after war meets Handmaid's Tale. >> Huh. >> It's very dark
It's like I remember the first time I picked it up I almost like had to put it down cuz like I am this uncomfortable. >> Huh. >> Yes. >> And that's the actual book or that's the fanfic? >> No, that was a fanfic
So now she wrote wrote her own It did so well that somebody wanted her to publish the story, but obviously she can't copyright
So she's built her entire own magical system now. >> Huh. >> Instead of like and it's like you can feel certain personality trait but it's very different
And then this is definitely been toned down
I was like And I was like to my friend, "This is so dark." I was like, "It's not I mean it's dark but it's not there yet." I was like And then I started reading I was like, "Oh, okay." And I had been like putting this off cuz I was like not in the right headspace for like really deep dark aggressive stuff um where I'm like This [clears throat and laughter] is so aggressive that I'm like >> See for me with those, I can't really read too dark of My best friend Emma is also a very avid reader like me but she reads like the deep dark like crazy like Hunting Adeline like crazy books and >> I haven't gotten to Hunting Adeline yet
I'm a little worried but >> she's told me like I just can't read that because and I'll always like check a book through her if it is a dark book, she'll she's probably have she's probably had read it
So I'll check it and I'll be like, "Hey, I'm thinking reading this book
Like, do you think it's going to be too much for me?" And she'll give me a very like honest yes or no
And I really appreciate that I have that in a friend. >> Well, that's nice
Also, that you know your limits. >> Yeah, cuz I'm very aware
Cuz sometimes it's happened to me a few times where like this I was reading Oh my god, I can't remember the name of the book. >> checking the trigger warnings? >> Yeah, it was like a crazy [snorts] dark book
And the cover just did not give dark
Like, it came very like cute
Yeah
And I started reading it and I was on the beach in Hawaii
And I actually like it was so intense
I was like, "I just need to never touch this book again." I closed it and I just put it to the side and I was like yeah, I'm I'm okay
It was like um she fell in love with like her captor
She got like kidnapped
And all this crazy stuff happened to her
And then she started falling in love with him
And I was like, "I just don't think I can read a book like this
That's like a little too >> But, it's funny somehow it works in fantasy. [clears throat] >> Yeah, and sometimes >> Like, he's allowed to like murder her whole family and like string her up and like really torture her and like but what I like about fantasy [laughter] that you don't get in romance they will never cheat. >> Yeah. >> They will do everything
They will murder your parents
They will like lock you up, kidnap you
They will torture your whole village
They'll be like a mass murderer
But, they will never cheat cuz you are theirs. >> Yeah
And there's like that obsession obsession between the two. >> And they'll stalk you and like all the red flags are there and they don't work in real life
But, somehow in fantasy the red flags are a little bit more like if he has wings, it's fine. >> [laughter] >> If he has wings, he's fine. >> [gasps] >> It's just like because he's a vampire, it's like his nature
You know, he's aggressive
Um but, that doesn't work for me
And I can't do dark books in real with the real people. >> What do you mean by that? >> Like, I can't do like a romance that has no magical element with red flags
Then I'm like, that's just messed up. >> Mhm, I would agree with that. >> a human, absolutely not
If he's not a vampire. >> If he's It's like out of my face. >> Slight animal and there's a reason for it and like I don't know. >> Oh my god, that's I feel like I talk about that all the time and especially when I started Booked and Busy I would like go through I would really be thinking about the themes of book books. >> You can't say them out loud sometimes. >> Yeah, I'd be thinking to myself and I'm like this is extremely messed up
Like what [laughter] the [ __ ] And the way I'm just reading it in my bed and I'm like >> You ever get that where they're like somebody who doesn't really read books like so what are you reading about? You're like >> I can't really tell you or you're just you're going to think I'm insane. >> Yeah, and you're trying to like rebrand it to like something palpable because if you say it out loud you're just like >> I'm even now questioning my own sanity. >> Like oh my gosh, yeah that's happened to me so many times when and especially when they're non-readers and you're having to like awkwardly explain like Fourth Wing or like act like even like a basic book
I'm like I sound insane
I'm talking about a fairy and a vampire
I'm like this just doesn't work
I need to shut up
So I want to talk about Binding 13 because >> I really just finished it
Have you finished Keeping 13? >> Yeah, literally just finished Keeping 13. >> Okay, so I'm going to start it
My first question Okay, well for a little backstory of people who haven't read Binding 13 Binding 13 is the first book in the Boys of Tommen series and it's by Chloe Walsh and Binding 13 is quite light, I would say. >> It's I didn't realize how light until I like started reading it and then my entire FYP was like >> Yeah, [clears throat] wait literally the same thing to me
I am getting a bunch of spoilers which I don't like. >> I swear it's connected to like your TikTok knows what you pick up. >> I feel like it also just listens to us. >> Yeah, that's it. >> So that's my thing cuz I was talking about it with a lot of my friends cuz one of my other really good friends, Ella, she has read this entire series twice
It's her favorite series. >> Really? >> recommended it to me. >> It's very young. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> I usually haven't but then I also kind of like make them older in my head where this is so high school >> Mhm. >> that I was like Okay, this is very young
And at first I wasn't going to pick it up, but then Clara Walsh, who's somehow become like if she likes a book, I tend to like it, too
Uh, I have a few people on BookTok where I'm like, oh, when they mention something we're usually the same. >> Mhm
Well, transparently, I had finished a book on a plane, and I wanted to keep reading
I was like in the headspace to keep on going
And so I get on my Kindle, and the only thing I had downloaded was Binding 13
So I was like, well, it's this or nothing
So I just started reading it, and within the first like 30 pages I was hooked
I was like, oh, what kind of what kind of stuff is she putting in this [ __ ] And so then I just was attached to it
I was like, now I have to finish it
But it's like 600 or 700 pages, and yeah, it took me through a freaking whirlwind
Anyways, for people who haven't read it, it's a love story between Shannon and Johnny
And Shannon's like this small, quaint, like easily breakable girl, and Johnny is like the captain of the rugby team. >> Classic. >> Yeah. >> Classic. >> And but the book and her writing style and like the yearning, well, it's a love book a love romance book, and it's kind of the story of Johnny and Shannon kind of coming together, and they're not really enemies to lovers. >> No, that's actually what I really liked about it
It's like it's not that they're that mean to each other
He's actually kind of awesome to her really early on and sees that she has some like messed up background, and he can't figure out why she seems like someone he must rescue. >> Yeah, which I I've never read a book like that, and the yearning was very addicting because for me a slow burn, I normally can't read slow burns cuz it's like >> You're like, I want you, but this is it
We're waiting. >> Yeah, I'm like, let's get it on
You know what I mean? >> Oh, see, I like it when it takes three books to get there. >> Really? See, I'm like an action girl
I'm like, give me like that's why ACOTAR a little too slow for me
So Throne of Glass would be better for me. >> For the love story, no. >> Okay, but for the paceness or the fast >> The pace
This is the hardest book to explain to people cuz it's my Roman Empire
It's one of my favorite series of all time once you're done with the whole thing
It's tough to get through the first two. >> Yeah. >> Then it gets like interesting to like people debate when to read Assassin's Blade. >> Mhm. >> Then it gets really good for like a book or two. >> Okay. >> And then you're like, what the >> [snorts] >> Then you have to like really get through another book, but like >> Mhm. >> And then it gets like the last two books are some of my favorite books I've ever read. >> Mhm. >> And then when you look back, you like you get why you had to go through so much because like when it all like ends, it's so emotionally invested. >> Mhm. >> And the character built and like the amount of like I've never seen female characters be allowed to be so flawed and be so built and the fact that she started writing reading this writing this when she was 16 blows my mind. >> And I probably think about that series like weekly. >> Mhm. >> Yet I don't know how to explain to people that like there's a lot of books you might almost DNF. >> Mhm. >> But please don't
Like make it through all the way to the end, but it's a it's a huge commitment for like not every book being like brilliant. >> Mhm. >> And that's what literally my best friend says the exact same thing to me
She's like >> Trust the process. >> Yeah
She cuz same thing for her like those are her Roman Empire
Like she thinks about those every day
She was in a book slump for a year
She couldn't She tried to pick up so many different books, but nothing gave her like the same like obsession that she had. >> Oh, it was really tough after
After finishing that, I was like >> Yeah
And that's my thing
I'm like, do I really need to like I like where I'm at with reading, you know? I'm like I don't want to not read for 6 months afterwards. >> So before Okay, we're going to get into ACOTAR, but so my last question about um binding or I guess the Boys of Tommen, number one is do you think you'll finish all the books in the series? >> I think I will, but I think I'll take them in chunks. >> Yeah, that's >> Cuz knowing that the next one is a different couple, >> Mhm. >> I was like, "Oh." I wasn't like ready to let them go, but Keeping 13 almost was like it could have ended a lot sooner. >> Interesting. >> We begin a lot of like extra story. >> Okay. >> Where I'm like and I get it, but that's when I got a little slow for me and like the drama was sort of like got into a point where you figure out if it's good or bad or not and then it's like this is why sometimes like real human books get just a too real life. >> Mhm. >> And I'm like, "Okay, where is my castles? Where are my fire? Like Where's my magic?" [laughter] Cuz even when they're they're struggling, they're struggling, you know, on a horseback. >> Yeah, on a >> [laughter] >> horseback. >> And so like there's definitely like everything about Binding 13 was so fast-paced for me and like I loved it
Um and then it's almost like we get the ending a little too soon in Keeping 13 and then there's extra, but I think it's probably really important for like the wrap-up the character and the setup and like you can tell the way there's it felt like the the ending of Keeping with Keeping 13 very much I'm like, "Oh, there's so many like unques- like about the other characters." Where I'm like, "Oh, there's definitely backstories." Oh, there's definitely They're definitely They're all probably messed up somehow. >> Mhm. >> So, but I wasn't ready for who she picked as her next Mhm. person. >> Cuz isn't it it's Joey and Alfie? >> Yes
And I was just not ready for Joey yet for some reason
I wanted one of the other kids. >> Which I feel like from what I've seen on social media cuz I get spoilers all the time
Apparently Joey's is really dark and apparently Lizzie's is really dark. >> No, Lizzie's seems like cuz you get told so little and so many hints are just like not okay
You're like, "Uh-huh, love." But I definitely will
But I Now there was a good break
I usually when I read a lot of books in ones, I try and be good about like wrapping them up
So like I'm almost done with my round of five. >> Wait
So right now I'm >> them all at the same time? >> ish >> Okay. >> I kind of start once I'm done everything, I start one and then all of a sudden I'm not in a mood for like how dark the chapter went
So now I'm like go to something lighter. is like, "Oh my god." And I'm like, "Ooh, what is this?" And then I'm two chapters in and I'm like, "Oh no, no, no." Like that's how it happened to me with The Poison Daughter
I was like And then I just swallowed a whole book
It's very like if you're a fan of um From From Blood and Ash. >> Mhm. >> It's a short It's almost feels like a one It's like a one book, which I like that it was like a um one-off
I try and always have one that's like not a full series commitment. >> I agree
I just read a one-off book
Like honestly pretty fast
It was called To Cage a Wild Bird. >> Oh, I've been told that was good. >> I saw it on TikTok and I was like, "Oh, sign me up." And it's basically like The Hunger Games, but like more gruesome
It's pretty gru- pretty It's not I wouldn't say if dark's the right word, but there's like a lot more Well, I guess The Hunger Games is pretty gnarly
But it's not that bad
Like it's Yeah, I don't really know how to say it without like getting way too into it
But >> is like messed up from the situation what it is. >> Yeah. >> But at the end of the day they don't go too detailed in the murders and torture. >> in the book they go really deep and really into it, which is a little much for Olivia
When I was reading it, I was like >> Well, you might if you I don't know how smart you want as well
But The Poison Daughter was like a good They're instant like it's it was very fast-paced. >> Okay. >> But it was also weirdly predictable if you read From Blood and Ash. >> Okay. >> Cuz I was like, "Oh, they just like condensed condensed one of them into the other." a little bit. >> Okay, well now let's talk about A Court of Thorns and Roses cuz you're rereading. >> Yes, I just finished all of them. >> You finished it. >> Yes. >> How long does that take you? >> Well, this was a reread, so this was a mix of reading it and audiobook. >> Okay
And how So how long? >> [clears throat] >> It takes me a day or two per book

I built a Like especially if I If I slightly know the book, it's like so easy. >> How? >> With audiobooks, especially ever since I became a mom, it's like a perfect My daughter goes to bed or something and I put the audiobook in and I get all my chores done and I'm not bored doing all that because I have a movie going and I can do all these manual tasks that I don't have to use brain space for. >> See, that's why like I'm not a huge audiobook book girl, but if I'm like cleaning around my apartment or something, I will like blast it on speaker and then I always get noise complaints from my neighbor cuz they're like, "What are you listening to?" >> Now, the worst is if someone texts you while you're reading an audiobook. >> Oh, and then it says it out loud. >> All of a sudden it goes, "Husband is letting you all And I'm like, "What is this slowness?" [laughter] And it's like this slow talking to you like, "Oh my god, it takes 5 minutes to read this one sentence." >> [laughter] >> That's crazy
I've listened to I listened to Lightlark by Alex Aster on I did a mix between audiobook and reading in real life, but I could only listen to it like at 1.5 speed. 3x I can't really >> Well, not every book is three It depending on like like Binding 13 was hard because he has a Scottish or Irish or something accent
I was like, "Whoa, okay, my English is not good enough for this." So got to like slow this one down a little bit. >> Does he in the um audiobook do they have an accent? >> Yeah, heavy. >> Oh. >> Uh-huh
Um cuz they're all from uh that part of the England. >> Yeah
Scotland? >> I just kind of lumped it up
I know that's so bad, but like in my head I was like "Yeah yeah." >> [laughter] >> A thing is like Dublin >> Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah
Yeah, because it could double like, yeah
Okay, yeah. >> Um, Dublin
But yeah, what's so nice about like obviously this is also like expensive way of doing it but if you have the Kindle plus the Kindle audio they sync

So you got two perspective and you got a few chapters with like recent So like she's definitely going into multiple perspective where it was like solely fit favor for a long time
So, I'm very curious to see if like do Nesta get to like wrap up her story next cuz I would love love more Nesta? >> Yeah. >> Um or do we finally get to hear from Elain? Is she going to go with sisters? Or is she going to do a full male perspective and change? That's why I want more of Nesta's story cuz I would be so sad if Nesta's just done cuz I feel like she was such a powerful and like debatable characters and so many people are so conflicted on what they feel about her and I think that makes her super interesting. >> Hm
I have seen a lot of like fan stuff about that on TikTok before about how people hope that Nesta [clears throat] has a further conversation within herself because they don't think how she got treated was correct. >> No, and I I feel like at the end it's like she finally connects a little bit and like gives it all up and like there's something and like but if that's just it like the build-up of what I feel like she has potential to be um [clears throat] even Amren is just like now she says how like I don't want to like yeah
And it made like Yeah, there there's a lot of loose ends like I don't know enough about Morgan's power
Like I'm just really but I think not giving Nesta more credit more roles even if she becomes a side character or like deviating or even like yeah, I think like that would be tough for me
What about you? >> I think I would agree with you if she went off on a whole different other character and didn't like wrap up what she's already started if that makes any sense
Cuz I feel like there's so many unanswered questions that people have
And if she just went and veered off completely and didn't answer all of this, unless of course there's going to be like another five books in the series where like those are going to eventually wrap back into this, I feel like that would be the That would be my answer
